Welcome to the Iowa Senior Olympics

2010 Iowa Senior Olympics a Big Success

The Games started on June 4-5 with an exciting Softball Tournament and the Cycling Race rolling across the finish line ahead of storm clouds.  It ended on Sunday, June 20 with a last second shot in Granny Basketball.  In between a record number of people ran / threw / hit / swam and competed while renewing friendships and making new ones.  Results and Records are posted on this site and have been e-mailed out to competitors.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WHO MADE THE SENIOR OLYMPICS A SUCCESS. PEOPLE GAVE UP HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF THEIR OWN TIME ON FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

Training Program for the Senior Olympics

We are very excited about announcing a new program for the Iowa Senior Olympics. We have joined forces with the YMCA of Greater Des Moines and Mercy Medical Centers on new project which is designed to benefit any adult 50 and over. The Iowa Senior Olympic Games is entering our 24th year of providing an opportunity for “not so seniors” to test themselves athletically while having a great social experience. Both, the very serious competitor and the person who is competing for the good experience, have been able to benefit and enjoy the Games.

Many people each year have asked us, “Where can I get a coach to help me? or Where is there a place I can train to make improvements?” This program came together through the shared vision of the YMCA, Mercy and the Iowa Senior Olympics to provide training opportunities for just such individuals.   The opening of the beautiful new Healthy Living Center brought the people, ideas and facilities together to make it work.

There are health screening options, plus training programs in: Swimming; Basketball; Track & Field; Road Racing and Golf. Check the “News” tab to the left for details.
